The Minister of Finance has responsibility for appointing Trustees to Community Trust South pursuant to the Community Trusts Act 1999 and our Trust Deed. This responsibility is currently delegated to Associate Minister of Finance the Hon Shane Jones.
People considered for appointment must reside within the Community Trust South area.
Skills and Attributes Required
Collectively Trustees must have the skills to manage the Trust, in particular:
- Sufficient diversity among Trustees (for example, in relation to background, skillset, ethnicity, demographics, and gender) in order to ensure that the communities in the Community Trust South area and their needs are properly represented;
- Sufficient Trustees who whakapapa Maori;
- Sufficient Trustees who have the skills required to manage the Trust Fund's investments (including compliance with financial and legal requirements);
- Trustees who collectively have skills in governance, community experience and the social sector; and
- Sufficient institutional knowledge of the Trust's affairs retained amongst the Trustees to enable smooth operation of the Trust.
Appointment Term
Appointments are for up to four years and Trustees are eligible for reappointment.
Time Commitment
Board meetings are held on Wednesdays approximately every five weeks.
- Board meetings occur at least five weekly (with no Board meeting in January).
- Usually held on a Wednesday, starting at 9.00am and concluding at approximately 3.00pm.
- From time to time extraordinary meetings are held.
- Three Board meetings a year are held in locations throughout our region.
In addition, Trustees are usually expected to participate in one or more of the Board Committees:
- Investment Committee meets quarterly on the Tuesday afternoon prior to the Board meeting.
- Audit, Finance and Risk Management Committee meets in February, June, July, August & November.
- CEO Performance Review Committee meets twice a year.
- Te Whai Hua Komiti meets four times per year.
Estimated time commitment of a Trustee: 30 days per year
Remuneration
Annual remuneration:
- Heamana/Chair: $31,350
- Heamana Tuarua/Deputy Chair $19,594.30
- Trustee: $15,675
Appointment Process
The process is managed by the Department of Internal Affairs and all expressions of interest received by the Trust are forwarded to the Minister of Finance. In addition, the Board advise the Minister of identified skill or other gaps with regard to the skills and attributes detailed above and any recommendations they may make.
